Discover How to Paint Your Walls and Add a Fresh Vibe to Your Home

Just moved and need to change the color of your walls? Or perhaps you simply want to overhaul the style of your house? With summer here and plenty of free time, now could be the perfect time for some interior design. Here, we bring you the top three trends of 2023 to give your home a fresh and contemporary touch.

Flat Paint

Painting walls can be one of the most tedious tasks when decorating a home.

Our proposal is based on the "Manta" color palette, consisting of old pink, beige, and gray colors. Please click here to register to see some examples. To start, use white paint and gradually add some tint until you achieve the desired shade.

Materials Required

  • Decorator's tape.
  • Spatula, filler, and sandpaper.
  • Painter's paper or similar.
  • Round and thick brush.
  • A paint roller and tray.

Steps to Follow

1. Clean the dust off the walls for better paint adhesion. If the walls are not in good condition, you should first scrape, fill, and sand the entire surface you want to paint. 2. Use decorator's tape to protect the edges of the area to be painted, and cover the floor with painter's paper to avoid potential paint stains. 3. Use a round, thick brush to paint the edges of the wall for a better finish. Apply a first layer and once dry, apply a second one. 4. Paint the wall evenly with a roller, avoiding repetitions in the same area. 5. Depending on the wall, quality, and color of the paint, apply one or two coats.

Wall Mural

While we usually hang pictures and photos, wall murals are now a trend in stylish homes.

Materials Required

  • The colors used must be acrylic.
  • Use newspapers to cover the floor.
  • A pencil, tape measure, and sandpaper.
  • White paint (3 liters of paint for every 20 square meters you want to paint).
  • Glossy finish varnish.

Steps to Follow

Choose the wall on which you want to create your mural. If necessary, eliminate any texture with sandpaper and remove the dust. Then, apply a layer of white paint over the entire surface where you'll do the artwork. Before drawing on the wall, it's advisable to create a draft of your design on a sheet of paper so you can modify or improve it before projecting it on the wall. Carefully consider dimensions and proportions. Once you've got your design, create perfectly straight or well-proportioned curved lines and define the contours with a thick lead pencil. Before adding color, evaluate for any asymmetries or disproportionate shapes and clean the area carefully not to dirty other sections. Now start coloring your design.

Wallpaper

Decorating with wallpaper is very trendy because it's a simple and clean way to quickly renovate the image of your home.

Materials Required

  • Glue for wallpaper.
  • Two brushes, one for glue application and another for smoothing.
  • Cutter for measuring and cutting any excess.

Steps to Follow

First, measure the surface to be wallpapered, leaving an excess at both the top and the bottom. Transfer these measurements to your chosen wallpaper, allowing for the prescribed overage. After you've cut the wallpaper, apply the glue. Once you've finished applying your wallpaper, it's time to cut off any excess material with a cutter.
